Welcome

The American College of Physicians Foundation (ACP Foundation) announces the launch of its new patient-centered initiative focusing on management of atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention.  The ACP Foundation Initiative on Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke Prevention is funded by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.  Combining the skill of key stakeholders in healthcare and atrial fibrillation treatment, the ACP Foundation will convene stakeholders, catalyze action, and create interventions to improve health outcomes.

The 14-month initiative on atrial fibrillation management, as it pertains to stroke prevention, will produce clinician and patient/caregiver interventions that will be implemented in both the ambulatory and hospital care settings.  In an effort to improve care and to bridge the gap in communication between clinician and patient, the interventions will include tools available in multiple formats such as print, video, electronic, and online media.  The initiative will also convene stakeholders at a National Stakeholder Conference in Washington, DC, where prototypes of the developing interventions will be presented for reaction and input.  Following the conference, the initiative’s National Steering Committee and the ACP Foundation will work with stakeholders to complete intervention pilots, which will be presented at an ACP Foundation press briefing in January 2012.
