Inaugural Pennsylvania Health Literacy Conference Conference

November 18, 2010

The ACP Foundation hosted the Inaugural Pennsylvania Health Literacy Conference on November 18, 2010 at Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. The conference was co-sponsored by Temple University School of Medicine, Aetna, Inc., CIGNA, Merck & Co., and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. The purpose of the conference was threefold:

  • Raise awareness of the impact of low health literacy on patient health outcomes
  • Assist organizations and health professionals in overcoming the challenges of low health literacy
  • Develop a statewide Leadership Council to catalyze action among state, regional and local organizations

Terry Davis, PhD a national leader in health literacy, gave the keynote address. Following Dr. Davis, a panel of experts addressed problems and practical solutions to low health literacy from the inpatient, outpatient, community and adult education aspects.

Roundtable on Health Literacy: The Impact of Low Health Literacy on Health Care Quality

November 22, 2010

The American College of Physicians Foundation collaborated with the Institute of Medicine's Roundtable on Health Literacy in hosting an invitational conference to address the impact of low health literacy on health care quality. The conference was co-sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Quality Forum, and the CIGNA Foundation. An Executive Summary, sponsored by MetLife Foundation, will be available in early 2011.
